  • hated it

Yet another movie with a bogus rating on here. Right from the get-go I
was asking questions here and scratching my head, there were plot holes
galore, continuity errors but most importantly there was no character
development, you were just seeing a lot of random acts linked to each
other, like watching an episode of "cops" but with real actors. A lot
has been made about the excellent direction from writer/director Greg
Marcks, my only comment on that is if this guy produced such a
masterpiece, why did it take another 6 years for him to direct another
movie? Some people have called this a dark comedy, there's nothing in
the way of laughs here and I wouldn't call it a drama as there's no
ending, the movie ends as abruptly as it starts.

There are only a number of ways to be successfully cinematic, and this
kid has discovered a rarely used one. What we have here is a world with only a few humans, all of whom are
tied to vehicles. No one is ever shown on screen, nor any car that is
not a significant plot element. All of these people and cars are
afforded the same level of importance. There is no story, no long form
development at all. The story exists only as a means to weave these
people together in a very tight and sometimes unexpectedly clever
fabric. Each actor has a very narrow job, so they do well enough. So far so good. What makes this movie special for me is the cinematic
business — how the cars give this energy. And it does have energy; it
snaps. The size of the bricks is exactly right for this effect: the
size of the physical chucks (the scenes and cuts), the size of the
narrative elements and the size of the conceptual ones, all three
weaving in the same manner as the cars. Each fact ends up reinterpreted as a result.I was thrilled. It is a precision hurdy gurdy, something simple done
exceedingly well. It will be interesting to see what this fellow's
intuition will give us in a real movie, with long form and scope.Ted's Evaluation — 3 of 3: Worth watching.

  • Very very good.

I love this genre of movies, in which they cancel time and space, and
explores some events, from very different angels. Thus giving us the
full extend of why these events occurred in the first place.Unfortently this genre is also very rare.During the exploration of 5 stories, your gonna see, 2 dead people, a
cut-off dick, lots of scamming, several accidents, gun-fire, drunk and
irresponsible driving, teenage sex, police chase, and the list goes
on… And the best part of it is, this all happens within a 20min time
line.Well executed, great acting and directing. This movie can easily be
viewed a second time, thus catching all the details in this complex
plot. This movie i'sent about character development, its about showing us
what triggered certain events. Showing us what our actions might bring
upon our self, our close ones.. and even strangers.

  • a mess

Why I was persuaded to watch this I will never know. First, it presents
an absolutely degraded adolescent culture. When we have responsible
adults in this world — the father and the cop — some of that ethic
should have rubbed off. But none of it did. Furthermore, the
motivations are baffling. Why –spoiler — does the father decide that
he must somehow dispose of his daughter's boyfriend's body (one of the
boyfriends) on the highway? He mouths a reason, but it does not add up.
Why — spoiler — is the girl who has just taken a .38 slug through the
arm suddenly handcuffed as a suspect in the convenience store robber?
Come on — she should be in shock and the cops yank her arms back to
cuff her. How on earth — spoiler — does the one kid regain an object
the other kid has lost and outrun the pursuit? Because the script calls
for it. Why — spoiler — does the one little floosie inform on (one
of) her boyfriends just as he getting her her $500? Basic problems with
motivation and just as deep issues with our accepting the coincidences
that weave this worthless concatenation into a film. How can it be –
spoiler — that the only car on the highway for miles happens to be
underneath the bridge as Dad drops the body? Come on! Those of you who
have praised this film have lost any sense of what it takes to make a
good film and, obviously, what it takes to critique a film. This one
    stinks.
