The Death and Life of Bobby Z, also known as Bobby Z and Let's kill Bobby Z, is a 2007 Hollywood action film. It was written by Bob Krakower and Allen Lawrence, starring Paul Walker, Laurence Fishburne, Olivia Wilde, Joaquim de Almeida and directed by John Herzfeld. The film received an R rating by the MPAA for violence, some drug use, language and brief nudity.

Tim Kearney is a unfortunate person. He's already in prison for the fourth time because of a criminal offence. There he's offered a deal with the DEA, which would involve his impersonating a legendary drug dealer, Bobby Z. Tim is told that the real Bobby Z has recently died of a heart attack in an embassy in Thailand, shortly after getting out of prison there. The plan that had been in operation at the time of Bobby's death was for him to be exchanged for a DEA agent that was being held by a Mexican drug cartel. The Feds explain to Tim that if he agrees to go along with this "transfer," he will be free to escape south of the border once the DEA agent is safely back on the American side.

Not too bad for straight to DVD

For a seemingly low budget film, Bobby Z wasn't too bad. Moves pretty
quickly, but with a weak storyline and plot, it is clear why it was a
straight to DVD feature. Paul Walker does a decent job with a character
that an Actor won't be able to do much with, except go with the flow.
No real surprises, or twists and turns, just straight to the point B
rated action. Actually has some pretty good fighting sequences and
shoot outs. Laurence Fishburne is surprisingly cast as a supporting
with a weak performance, mainly due to the script and content and
possibly direction as well. Bobby Z is definitely a good B movie, with
a rating of 5 overall considering everything listed above. All in all,
this film is definitely worth watching if you're just chillin' with 97
minutes to spare. And Paul Walker is not nearly as bad an Actor as
everyone tries to make him out to be. Have fun.

Great movie I wished it never ended.

I just wish there was more of this movie, an hour and thirty minutes
wasn't enough. It has bikers, the border, Mexican smugglers, Paul
Walker – what else do you need?? The only thing is I wish I had all the
footage shot so I could see more of the landscape and just get more in
touch with the characters.. Overall definitely worth watching. I don't
understand why this film went straight to DVD? Possibly exec's thought
they weren't going to get enough money back, but this is just as good
as any of the '08 summer blockbusters I have seen. When at thirty
minutes in, I kept saying to myself – oh crap, there is only one hour
left and so on.
