Strange Wilderness is a 2008 comedy film produced by Adam Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions for Paramount Pictures, and starring Steve Zahn, Allen Covert, Justin Long, Kevin Heffernan, and Jonah Hill.

The protagonist's father was a successful and revered animal-show host akin to Marlin Perkins's Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. When he died his stoner son and his sidekick Fred Wolf (Covert) take over the production of the program. However, their television affiliate develops concerns over the sliding ratings and the slipshod nature of the show's production under the new regime (they showed films of burning protesters and a cast member being brutally attacked by a shark).

A rival animal-show is poised to take over the slot once held by "Strange Wilderness," unless the boys can turn the show around. Luckily, an old friend of the father gives them a map for "Bigfoot's Lair" in Ecuador for $1,000. The show then sets out to film bigfoot in a hope to revive interest in their flagging affair. They finally arrive at bigfoot's lair. to their surprise, bigfoot emerges, scaring the team, they shoot him to death. The group goes to Peterson's office to show their work. The video they made shows that bigfoot supposedly hanged himself. [1]

Production

Jonah Hill wrote his role in the film.[2] Hill gave Cooker a given name, Lynn, because "Lynn is a strong name, and I feel like only people named Lynn can accomplish their goals — no one else, with any other name."[3]

Critical reception

The film received highly negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 0% rating with an average reviewer rating of 2.2/10 based on 37 reviews. [4] At Metacritic, it was given a 12% (ranking 'Extreme dislike or disgust') based on 12 reviews, tying it for 27th place for the worst-reviewed films ever.

A simple comment for a simple film.

Will it win an award? No.Is it the dumbest god damn thing ever put to celluloid? Probably.Is it also insanely funny? Hell yes.Does it achieve it's goal of making you laugh/killing time while you
wait for a pizza to arrive before you watch The Bicycle Thieves or The
Third Man? Yeah, and that's how I started watching this movie. My
friends and I rented about eight of the best films ever made, then
picked this one up because our local video store didn't have a copy of
Miller's Crossing.It…rocked. In a night of the greatest movies ever made, we still
loved this film for actually accomplishing it's only goal: making you
cry with laughter.

Was this done by a 12 year old?

Where to start? Unless you are stoned or so stupid you drool, this
movie is one to skip. This movie makes Son of Mask and Dumb and
Dumberer (the sequel), look like another "There's Something About Mary"
or "Superbad". Bad acting; but probably just a bad script and poor
direction, and predictable or unfunny/drawn out jokes make this
tiresome to view. The jokes that had potential were killed by poor
timing. Overall, one of the worst movies I've seen, and I even like bad
movies (I own the other two I list above). I have to write this one more line to get to 10, otherwise this warning
to the masses will never get out!

Very Strange Indeed But Still Fun To Watch

Animal enthusiast Peter Gaulke (Steve Zahn) and his sidekick Fred Wolf
(Allen Covert) host the ailing wildlife TV show "Strange Wilderness,"
which is in a steep ratings decline. Desperate to save the show, Peter
hatches a Hail Mary scheme to find the one animal that could truly turn
the show around and change the nature show landscape forever –
Bigfoot. The movie overall was kind of sloppy at times but people like
Robert Patrick, Ernest Borgnine and Steve Zahn make this low budget of
a movie barable to watch. My opinion is it's a great movie to watch
when nothing much is going on that day but also a movie with a chock
full of flaws. Strange Wilderness 6/10

an unexpected laugh out loud movie

i haven't found myself laughing at such stupid stuff in years. Then I
couldn't stop because I knew it was so silly. Very good feeling. Quite
crude but then that was expected.Pretty much down to earth as far as
the plot goes there was nothing completely unbelievable or too out
there. You know when you start laughing as a kid in class and you cant
stop and this is usually because you know you should not be laughing in
the first place so it gets worse? Well that is what it does to you. It
starts the giggleloop! run for the tissues and the loo at the same
time. the extra features on the DVD could do with a better or bigger
gag reel or something as Im sure they must have had fun doing the
flick.Even if the joke or visual gag was old they did it all quite
well.The plot is basic, save the show, how they manage is quite a hoot.
