Winning London is a 2001 film starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Plot
Chloe Lawrence (Mary-Kate Olsen) is a very driven teenager and leader of her high school's Model United Nations team. After performing particularly well in a competition, the team is selected to attend the international Model UN competition in London, England. One of the team members, Randall , is unable to attend. Chloe's twin sister, Riley (Ashley Olsen), steps in to fill the gap – to get closer to Chloe's attractive teammate, Brian, more than anything else. When the group arrives in London, they discover that someone is already representing their usual country: China. Undaunted, they improvise and end up representing England. Plenty of sight-seeing and shopping ensues, while Chloe takes a fancy to James Browning, the son of an English noble, Lord Browning, who is pressuring his son to achieve more. As the competition progresses, Chloe's over-competitive nature stalls her budding romance, Riley tries to get closer to Brian, and the team earns both admiration and anger for their unconventional methods. Nevertheless, tribulations are weathered and lessons learned about sportsmanship, overlooked friends, and learning to enjoy one's youth.

Trivia
- Riley doesn't directly answer her oral essay question. She's off topic. She describes the Royal Family's position in the UK, not the UK's position on the rest of the world in the 21st century.
- Chloe and Riley are Ashley and Mary Kate's respective character names in their short-lived TV series So Little Time, and the hairstyles of both sets of characters are similar too. The theme song of the series is also played many times.
- A significant vignette shows the twins shopping at the Camden Market in London, which suffered an historic fire on February 9, 2008.
Goofs
- When Chloe, Riley, Brian, Rachel and Dylan are playing a game of catch to test each other on their knowledge of England, Chloe incorrectly replies "Her Royal Highness" instead of "Her Majesty" when asked the Queen's form of address. However, neither her sister nor any of her friends corrects her.
- During the dialogue between Rachel and Dylan in the club scene, Rachel's fringe changes direction numerous times as the camera swaps from a shoulder shot to a full face shot.
- The actual Model United Nations activity was not well represented in this movie, and rather was modified heavily

Great movie (if you're in the mood for it)
I grew up watching the Olsen twins' movies. I was in love with them
.
redhotpeppers48 from United States - 5 January 2009(the movies, not the actors). So I'm pretty biased when I say that I
personally loved this movie. It's got corny accents, bad acting,
not-so-great writing, and the ventilation magically changes into a
laundry chute, what more can you ask for? (Although I have to say I
didn't think the plot line was all that bad) Yes, this movie is
intended to target a preteen demographic, so if you're looking for a
deep movie, this is probably not it. But if you're just relaxing and
looking for something fun to watch, this is a great movie! I think this
was one of the better Olsen twin movies. Also the fact that Jesse
Spencer is in it makes it all the more worthwhile to watch
Dull, not very well made, but all around harmless
"Winning London" is the story of a girl named Chloe who is the captain
Zit Picker from United States - 20 December 2008(?) of her high school Model UN club. After doing well in a tournament,
her team is invited to the giant, international competition is London,
England. However, when one of her team mates cannot attend, Chloe's
twin sister Riley step in (mostly so she can hook up with some guy on
the team).I've never really loved or hated the Olsen Twins and their movies. But,
a little while ago, I got suckered into watching this on TV by a friend
of mine. This is a relatively harmless, but bad movie. The plot is
pretty typical, and unimaginative, with nothing very interesting,
creative, or unique about it. It relies heavily upon cliché jokes, plot
devices, and, of course, stereotypes. Also, there are times when you
can see how low budget this movie is. When Riley and a her boy toy are
crawling through the air ventilation, it's really tall and wide and
looks like a crappy set.The acting is also pretty thin. The Olsens are blah, and really I felt
nothing for either of their characters. They both seem rather
unpleasant and whiny. One is willing to step over anyone and be a (for
a lack of a better word) bitch just so she can win. The other is
continually whining and making a big deal of how her crush isn't
remembering her the way he should. The side characters also got on my
nerves. That annoying kid with the camera (I forget his name) and the
rather bland and boring fat girl. Even Jesse Spencer, who I rather like
as an actor, wasn't that great. The accents were also pretty bad.
Really, I found it sad to see the British people in the movie being
portrayed as uptight posh individuals with accents that were garbled
and couldn't be understood. But really, though I didn't like this movie, and there were a lot of
things that bugged me about it, it wasn't really anything terrible. In
fact it's pretty harmless and dull. I don't think that I will forever
have the horrible images of "Winning London" emblazoned in my brain.
Probably, in about a week, I'll forget all about it. Besides, I'm not
the intended audience. It's good if you have younger girls, they'll be
entertained. Also, if you're an Olsen twins fan, then of course you're
going to love it. If you're anyone else, I say just skip it.
charming
If you go in to this movie expecting it to be intellectually
salsa89 from Australia - 9 May 2006stimulating then I'm afraid this movie isn't for you, but if all you
want is a pleasant movie on a Saturday than this is fine family fun.The premise is that the two olsens and the rest of their Model UN team
go to London to feature in an international Model UN. The film is
predictable in places, irritating in others(no one would believe that
the twins were boys!!), and genuinely entertaining in others still. It
is an above average olsen film and I'd give it 8/10 considering that.Just remember; go in to it in the right mood. It's a light film that
doesn't need reading into. Don't expect big, just a gentle comedy.
